A HISTORICAL GESTURE of thanks to CANADA:
ORTONA, On Monday, 2 December 2019, the commemorative ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the Italian Campaign was held in Piazza Degli Eroi Canadesi, in Ortona. The event was attended by institutions and members of the Canadian armed forces. The Minister of Veterans Affairs, Lawrence MacAulay, led the official delegation consisting of fifteen veterans of the Italian Campaign, representatives of indigenous organizations and veterans of war, youth groups and senior representatives of the Canadian Government.
Canada's Ambassador to Italy, Alexandra Bugailiskis, and Her Excellency Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada as Commander in Chief were present. The ceremony ended with the deposition of wreaths at the Prezzo della Pace monument. The event paid tribute to the more than 93,000 Canadians who served with the Allies in the Italian Campaign, to highlight their key role and contribution to the liberation of our country.
